About Russell D Pulford

Russell is a British artist living in Australia. From 2015 he decided to devote himself completely to his passion for art, which led him to specialise in landscape painting of great visual impact. At the basis of this choice there is not a simple aesthetic research, but a higher ideal which aspires to enhance the natural beauties that surround us, as they constitute a fragile and irreplaceable heritage. The care and respect of the environment is also at the centre of his work. The artists aim is to combine his love of the environment with his love of painting and to use the universal language of art to reflect on the sensations of sublime serenity that the contemplation of nature brings. Furthermore, painting becomes an opportunity to discover nature itself in a different more conscious and personal way: with every single shade of the grass, every cloud and every detail of the landscape, Russell first of all surprises himself for the harmony and uniqueness of the landscape which, stroke after stroke takes shape on the canvas. The artist thus projects the essence of the beauty of the earth in to his works creating not only a painting that represents nature but an invitation to admire and protect it. An invitation that cannot be rejected. Art Curator Chiara Rizzatti

Artist Statement

My Art?It is simply my interpretation, how i see things, how i see and feel colour. I work with acrylic paints, the addition of gels allows me to push and pull the paint around, to blend it and achieve that impasto style that is contained within so many of my pieces.
Nature and our environment is the motivation behind my landscape painting. Our environment needs to be managed with great care, it is heart breaking to see the continual lack of respect shown by so many for something so important and beautiful. I hope my work provides a reminder of an environment in better times without human kinds woeful footprint.
There are so many beautiful places to visit and paint. I have many favourite places.
How do I start? Well it's simple. I have either photographic references from visits to particular places or perhaps supplied by a client.
Painting for me is a form of meditation, I am transported to the subject that I am working on. I am reminded of the time, the feeling and in particular the realisation that although we are present for such a short time, individually and collectively we can make a critically positive impact on our environment.
How would I like viewers of my artwork to respond? Positively of course, I would hope that their curiosity is aroused and that they are enticed by the different textures which hold they're attention as they find themselves in the heart of the work.
